Michelangelo's "David" was carved from a nineteen-foot block of marble, called "Giant"; it is 4,35 metres tall (14.24 ft). The Contract for making this msterpiece was concluded in August 1501. In January 1504 it was decided that the statue be erected on The Piazza della Signoria, by the entrance to The Palazzo Vecchio in Florence.
Today, a copy of "David" stands in the same
place. The original has been kept in The
Accademia delle Belle Arti in Florence since
1873.
Michelangelo was 30 years old when he
made "David".
